Sam is checking out one of the most ancient ways to tell time - a plate with a small hole in it takes a certain amount of time to sink in a basin of water, depending on the plate's weight. The Romans used this method for time telling

It also has 3 major waterfalls.

After a long day of hiking...

Erie Canal Cruise (August 19)

This was one of the highlights of the trip. Sam still sings the song "15 miles in the Erie Canal!"

Erie Canal goes from Lake Erie all the way to the Hudson River.
We went through two sets of locks, on the way up and down, near Lockport, NY.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Look who nailed it!

At Home Depot's kids' workshop. These happen every month and Sam really looks forward to them. So far he has made a bird house, an EMS truck, and a pencil box. Next up: a bank and a coaster!

Old Fort Niagara (August 19)

Old Fort Niagara is located where the Niagara river flows into Lake Ontario, on the border with Canada. It originated in 1678 and was an important strategic military point over the past three centuries, changing hands several times among the French, British and Americans.
