Jamaica Bay Wildlife refuge is located on an island between Coney Island and JFK airport. It is operated by the National Parks system and is a nice oasis in the middle of New York City.
Getting ready to go out and look at wildlife. Got binoculars and junior ranger hat!
Trying to spot some birds
There is a great view of Manhattan across the bay (zoomed in view below)
You can see the Empire State Building and some other Manhattan buildings
Taking a rest along the hiking trail
A fresh water pond, where we saw birds, even swans
A park ranger is helping Sam with finishing up his junior ranger booklet activity
Map of the park (the yellow loop on the left side is the hiking trail we were on)
On the way back to New Jersey we went over the Verrazano bridge
