New Bedford Whaling, New Bedford, Massachussets

Bedford Whaling is a national historical site, maintained by the National Park Service. It preserves the history connected with whaling, an important industry in the 19th century. New Bedford was the most important port in the US for whaling (catching whales to harvest whale oil and other parts). Whale oil was mainly used for heating and light before petroleum was discovered.

Sam is doing his junior ranger booklet assignments. Here is is finding a building on a historical map of New Bedford.
